The cabin
The cabin comfortably sleeps 4–6 adults. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a half bath and office workspace. The lofted bedroom has a full bed plus a twin trundle. The living room has a queen sofa pullout. In a pinch, 8 guests can make it work — it'll be cozy but doable for the right crew.
Please reach out to discuss bringing pets. We want to accommodate your whole crew, so let us know what you have in mind and we'll work something out.
Yes, the cabin has very fast fiber optic WiFi. That said, you're on the north side of a mountain in the Appalachians — we'd still encourage you to treat this trip as a chance to unplug as much as possible. The fishing is better than anything on your phone, we promise.
The cabin comes fully stocked for your stay. Linens and towels are provided. The kitchen has everything you need to cook — pots, pans, utensils, coffee maker. We also provide coolers and a grill. Just bring your clothes, your rods, and your appetite.
Absolutely — that's what the carport and overhang are for. You'll need to back up the driveway to get your rig in, so just plan for that. Let us know when you inquire so we can confirm the fit for your setup.
Yes! The cabin is a great fit for families. The loft with the trundle bed is perfect for kids. We also have kid carriers available if you want to take little ones out on the trail. The area around Elizabethton has plenty of family-friendly outdoor activities, and even the fishing can be a great introduction for younger kids.
Fishing & guided trips
Totally up to you. The cabin is great for self-guided anglers who know the area, or for anyone who wants to explore on their own. We can point you toward public access on all six rivers. If you want a guide, we'll connect you with one of our partners — but it's never required.
You're central to six excellent trout fisheries: the Watauga River (world-class tailwater, 6,000–8,000 fish per mile), South Holston (legendary sulphur hatches, trophy browns), Nolichucky (wild gorge fishing, native brook trout), Doe River, Stoney Creek, and Laurel Fork. All within 35 minutes of the cabin.
Our guide partners typically provide the drift boat, all tackle and flies, instruction, and lunch on full-day trips. When fishing with a guide, your Tennessee fishing license and trout stamp are often included — confirm this with your guide when booking. If you're fishing on your own, you'll need to purchase a license online at tn.gov/twra before your trip or pick one up locally. Polarized sunglasses and rain gear are recommended either way.
All skill levels are welcome — from complete beginners to seasoned fly fishers. Our guides tailor every trip. If this is your first time on a fly rod, they'll teach you everything you need right there on the water. If you've been fishing for decades, they'll put you on the fish.
The tailwaters (Watauga and South Holston) fish well year-round thanks to cold, consistent dam releases. Spring (April–May) is legendary for the caddis hatch on the Watauga and sulphur hatches on the South Holston. Fall brings active feeding as fish bulk up for winter. Summer can be excellent early morning and evening. There's truly no bad time to visit.
All anglers fishing independently need a valid Tennessee fishing license and trout stamp. You can purchase them online at tn.gov/twra before your trip, or pick them up locally. Note: when fishing with a guide, your license is often included — confirm with your guide when booking.
Location & getting here
The cabin is on a private wooded lot on the north side of a mountain just outside Elizabethton, TN. It feels completely remote, but downtown Elizabethton — with restaurants, shops, and breweries — is just a 5-minute drive. Exact address is provided upon booking confirmation.
Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI) in Blountville, TN is about 20 minutes away and serves several major carriers. Asheville Regional (AVL) in North Carolina is about 90 minutes away and often has more flight options if you're coming from farther out.
A standard vehicle handles the cabin access road fine. Some of the mountain overlooks and forest roads in the area (like the road to Unaka Mountain Beauty Spot) do benefit from higher clearance, but you don't need anything special to reach the cabin itself.
